UTSA’s Mexican Cookbook Collection

UTSA’s Mexican Cookbook Collection is one of the largest in the country and includes more than 1,000 Mexican, Texan, and Southwestern cookbooks documenting the variety and history of Mexican cuisine.  The books—which are in both Spanish and English—range in date from 1789 to 2010, with the bulk of titles dating from 1940-2000. The core of the collection came to UTSA as a donation from San Antonio resident Laurie Gruenbeck, who has collected cookbooks during her travels in Texas and Mexico for over 30 years and continues to actively participate in building the collection.  La Cocina Historica, the collection’s companion blog, celebrates Mexican culinary history and features weekly recipes from the cookbooks.
